As yesterday's defenders of freedom, we want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks to become part of our elite group. Our common bond is the battlefield, whether it is service in the Persian Gulf, Korea, Kosovo, the war on terrorism or peace-keeping expeditionary campaigns. Your courage and sacrifice have made a difference in preserving and defending world peace.
We take seriously our commitment to advocate, support, and provide service to ALL veterans whether they are members of the VFW or not. If you know of a veteran needing assistance with the Veterans Administration (VA) or with something closer to home, do not hesitate to reach out to us.
We are currently leading a nationwide effort to better support and recognize Submarine veterans. Our District Commander is coordinating efforts in a number of VFW Departments (States) to approve resolutions that will lead to improved eligibility in the VFW, a better understanding of how the VFW can help Submariners, and to encourage the VA to undertake special studies regarding the long-term impacts of service onboard submarines.
